Sappong > Pai, Thailand Day 33

Hung out for a bit around the lodge and saw everyone off on their trek or onto the next part of their journey. After the last had gone we set off for Mae Hong Son, the drive again was up one hill, down the other side and some of the corners where amazing, the views once again were terrible.

Mae Hong Son is quite a large town. We had lunch and I spotted a little shop with T-shirts saying 1864 curves, we had to investigate. What we found out was staggering, from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son using the southern route there are 1864 corners. Then we found out that the way we had come (by the northern route) has 2070 corners in only 237km, no wonder why I was feeling a bit average. We also found out we could go to the tourist office and get a certificate to say we completed the drive and the total number of corners. After we got our certificates we hit the corners again and headed back to Pai for the night.

We stayed at the same place for the night and sat and had a couple of drinks at the bar before dinner. We met Ben & Gerry, Ben is Irish and Gerry (female) is English. We had a great chat and made a time to catch up later on for a few more drinks after dinner.

We had dinner at the Witchin Well – the best meal!! I had fish on a bed of mashed potato with grilled vegies and pesto, Lee had a spaghetti dish – both were amazing (I know….not very Thai but delicious). We then followed it up with what I had been craving since we first saw the place……dessert. Lee had raspberry and white chocolate trifle and I had Mango & Passionfruit Pavlova. Along with a passionfruit margarita, a beer and waters it cost us 470B about $19 – now you can’t get that back home!! We did get a bit of a discount as Lee sprooked to anyone that turned up to look at the menu and I think everyone sat down and ordered and they were not disappointed.

We then ventured round to Park @ Pai and met up with Ben & Gerry. We had another groovy night listening to a funk and soul band. One of the waitresses sings in the band, she had this mass of afro style hair half way down here back and when she sang she had this gravelly jazz voice that you just would not expect to come out of her. The band was about a 6 piece so the nights music once again was fantastic. We are going to meet up with Ben & Gerry in Chiang Mai to throw some water.
