Pai > Chiang Mai, Thailand Day 34

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Last brekkie at The Witchin Well, such a shame to be leaving Pai. We went for a walk around the town to try and find the hammock shop as Lee wants to buy one for the trip. We went to go up our normal road but it was blocked by all the young boy monks throwing water over everyone, we took a detour across the river and through some village guest houses. We came back across another rickety bridge and found we had escaped the water…..for the time being anyway!! Once we got the hammock we did one last lap – in the car – around Pai to get some photos of the monks throwing water……..Songkran has started!! Then we hit the corners again back to Chiang Mai, we have to have the car back at 12.30pm.

We made it, even with going to our guest house and dumping our bags. The trip back was memorable all the little towns had children on the sides of the roads throwing water, you could see on their faces they were having an absolute blast. Didn’t see much action in Chiang Mai before we dropped the car off. After lunch at the shopping centre we hopped in a tuk-tuk thinking it was safe!!! We were so wrong, by the time we got back to CM Blue House we were drenched. It had unofficially begun… we needed to get armed!!!

We had an awesome Burrito for dinner and a lazy evening. Only one thing that ruined my day and that is somehow I have lost our Lonely Planet Thailand book…..argh!!!
